Alice Opoku is trying to put her best foot forward – “Well I just wanted an intro to the medical field,” says the Rockwood Summit sophomore. “It’ll look good on my college applications. And then I will have the introduction and I’ll do better at school with the courses I’m taking here.”

Two years ago, Mario Coronado was considering an engineering or pre-med major in college. Now at 18, Coronado has a full-tuition scholarship to St. Louis College of Pharmacy worth about $130,000, and he’s guaranteed a job at Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s pharmacy for six years after he graduates.
Thirty multicultural students from 16 area high schools are spending the next few weeks in hands-on, academic and college prep training in the BESt Summer Pharmacy Institute.
